What is the difference between square and staggered wheel setups?

Square setups use the same size at all four corners for balanced handling and easy rotation, while staggered setups run wider rears for improved RWD traction and a more aggressive stance.

Square setup: All four wheels share the same diameter, width, and offset. Balanced, predictable handling; even tire wear; maximum rotation flexibility. Ideal for FWD and AWD platforms like the Honda Civic, Subaru WRX, and Ford Focus ST/RS.

Staggered setup: Rear wheels and tires are wider than the fronts. Better traction and stability on RWD performance cars. Trade-off: tire rotation is eliminated and rear tires wear faster.

Which should you choose?

  • FWD or AWD car (JDM platforms, hot hatches, performance sedans): go square -- more practical and handling-optimized
  • RWD sports or muscle car: staggered is worth exploring for improved rear grip and a more aggressive stance
  • AWD platform: consult with our team before going staggered -- significant size differences can cause drivetrain damage
